Early pregnancy & your first OB visit
Early pregnancy can feel exciting, overwhelming, or both at the same time. The goal of the first obstetric visit is to confirm the pregnancy, review your health history, and answer early questions so you feel informed about what comes next.
Dr. Twist prioritizes clear explanations and time for discussion during early visits. Questions are expected at this stage, and no concern is too small to bring up.
What typically happens at the first visit
At your first obstetric visit, you can generally expect a review of your medical and pregnancy history, discussion of symptoms and what is common in early pregnancy, an ultrasound when appropriate, and guidance on next steps and follow‑up visits. Care is individualized to you and your pregnancy.
Pregnancy care over time
As pregnancy progresses, visits focus on monitoring your health and your baby’s development while continuing to address questions and concerns as they arise.
Dr. Twist emphasizes consistency of care, thoughtful decision‑making, and clear communication throughout pregnancy. Working within the Associates in Women’s Health team allows for coordinated care while maintaining continuity whenever possible.
Planning for delivery is discussed well before your due date so expectations feel clear and not rushed.
Postpartum care & recovery
Postpartum care is an important continuation of pregnancy care. Recovery includes both physical healing and emotional adjustment, and both are addressed during postpartum follow‑up.
Dr. Twist encourages patients to discuss physical recovery, feeding concerns, mood changes, and any challenges they may experience after delivery. Support does not stop once your baby is born.
When to call the office — it’s always okay
Contact Associates in Women’s Health if you experience heavy bleeding, fever or chills, severe or worsening pain, or symptoms that feel concerning or out of the ordinary.
If you are unsure whether something is normal, it is always okay to call. Questions are part of care.
For urgent or life‑threatening symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
A note on communication and care
Dr. Twist believes that clear communication and consistency help reduce anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum care. Questions are encouraged at every stage, and patients are treated as active partners in their care.
